T20 WC 2024: ‘Not going to talk too much’ - Why Rohit Sharma didn’t want to speak on Jasprit Bumrah?

By MyKhel Staff

India captain Rohit Sharma was all in praises for Jasprit Bumrah after his excellent bowling against Pakistan on Sunday (June 9).

The Indian pacer was top-notch and dismantled the Pakistan batting. Defending just 119 runs, Bumrah was spot on and had a stellar figure of 3 for 14 in his four overs.

Bumrah stifled Pakistan with his bowling and got the much-needed wicket of Babar Azam at the start. In the middle overs, he struck to get rid of the set Mohammad Rizwan and then sent back Iftikhar Ahmed as well.

The India captain Rohit Sharma hailed Bumrah for his performance and termed the bowler as a genius but also said that he won't be talking too much about his star pacer.

"He is going from strength to strength. We all know what he can do. Not going to talk too much about him. We want him to be in that mindset throughout the World Cup. He is a genius, we all know that," Rohit said after the match.

Former India player Sreesanth said that Rohit didn't want to 'talk too much' about Bumrah as the India captain didn't want to jinx the pacer. We also believe that the superstitious mind of the Indian captain thus wanted to refrain from creating too much hype about the team and their performance to keep focus on the ultimate prize, which is to win the T20 World Cup.

Rohit also said that India had the belief that they would defend the paltry total due to the pitch and their bowling attack.

"With a bowling line-up like that you feel confident to do the job. Halfway through the stage when they were batting, we got everyone together and said that if it can happen to us, it can happen to them," the India captain added.

India, with the victory over Pakistan, have gone to the top of the Group A points table with 4 points in two matches. Their next match is against USA on Wednesday and a victory would almost ensure India's qualification to the Super Eights as group winners.
