T20 World Cup 2024: 5 players who got out for ducks in first match after being named in squads for ICC event

T20 World Cup 2024: Participating nations have started to announce their respective squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 which will start from June 2. Amidst the fireworks in the IPL, the squad announcements for T20 World Cup 2024 have kept the fans heavily engaged.

India, Australia, England, New Zealand, West Indies, and South Africa are among the cricketing powerhouses who have already announced their squads. All the key players from these teams are currently part of the ongoing IPL 2024.

The T20 World Cup-bound players in IPL 2024, who were in the limelight already, are being observed more closely by the fans now. Some of them have felt the heat, and got out even without opening their accounts. As many as five players have got out for ducks immediately after being named in the T20 World Cup squads.

• Hardik Pandya: The Mumbai Indians captain was named the vice-captain of Indian men's cricket team for the T20 World Cup 2024. The 30-year-old walked in to bat at five on April 30, hours after India squad announcement, and got out for a first-ball duck against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
• Shivam Dube: The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star was picked in India's 15-member squad on the back of his sensational run in the last two years. He came out to bat on May 1, a day after the announcement and got out for a golden duck against Punjab Kings.
• Sanju Samson: Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson was picked as the second wicketkeeper-batter in the India squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.

He pipped KL Rahul for the spot. The 29-year-old right-hander was dismissed for a three-ball duck on May 2 - his first outing after his inclusion in the squad for the mega event. He was clean bowled by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

• Jos Buttler: The Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener will be leading the England team at the T20 World Cup 2024. He was dismissed for a first-ball duck in the match against SRH on May 2. The starting batter was also dismissed by Bhuvneshwar.
• Mitchell Starc: The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer joined the list after being clean bowled for a 2-ball duck by Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Jasprit Bumrah on Friday, May 3. However, the primary role of Starc in the T20 World Cup 2024 would be to pick early wickets for Australia.
