The T20 World Cup 2024 started with the group stages from June 1 when the co-hosts USA beat Canada at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas in the opening game of the 55-match tournament.
The 2024 edition is the largest in terms of teams competing as the tournament gets expanded to a 20-team competition. There are several former champions and a few teams competing for the first time in the T20 World Cup.

While several sides had announced their squads at the start of May, some teams announced their playing groups by May 25th with Pakistan being the latest to reveal their 15-member squad. Many teams have retained their skippers, while a few have got new faces leading their sides.
For India, Rohit Sharma will lead the side for the second successive edition. Similarly, Babar Azam, who was reinstated as skipper in all three formats earlier this year, will lead the team in the third successive edition.
Defending champion captain Jos Buttler is set for his second successive stint as skipper for England. Kane Williamson also returns for his fourth successive captaincy role for New Zealand.
Namibia also will be led by Gerhard Erasmus, who returns for another World Cup as captain like Scott Edwards for Netherlands. Most of the other teams will be led by new faces.
Australia will be led by Mitchell Marsh, who is set to lead in his first T20 World Cup. Likewise, Wanindu Hasaranga will lead Sri Lanka, Najmul Hossain Shanto will captain Bangladesh, Soutn Africa will be led by Aiden Markram.
Rovman Powell is set to lead West Indies for the first time in a World Cup like Rashid Khan for Afghanistan. USA will be led by Monank Patel and Canada by Saad Bin Zafar. Here is a look at the T20 World Cup 2024 captains of all 20 teams:
