T20 World Cup 2024: 'Don't Want to Jinx it, but...' - Dravid Feels There is a Big One Coming up From Kohli

Head coach Rahul Dravid echoed skipper Rohit Sharma in predicting "there is a big one coming up" from Virat Kohli after the star batter continued to put on big runs in India's impressive win over England in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final in Providence, Guyana.

Put into bat first, Kohli, who has a best of 37 so far at the show-piece tournament, continued his disappointing outing with the bat, scoring just 9 off 9 balls before being castled by Reece Topley in the 3rd over at the Guyana National Stadium on Thursday (June 27).

Rahul Dravid backs Virat Kohli to score big soon

Kohli came into the T20 World Cup 2024 on the back of a fine IPL 2024, where he won the Orange Cap after amassing 741 runs including 1 century and 5 fifties in 15 innings at a strike rate of 154.69.

The star batter, however, has failed to carry that run-scoring form into the show-piece tournament, where he has amassed just 75 runs, including 2 ducks in 7 innings at a strike rate of 100.

While there has been some concerns regarding his form when opening in this tournament, his batting partner and skipper Rohit simply reminded about an old saying that "class is permanent and form is temporary".

"Virat is a quality player," Rohit said. "Any player can go through that phase. We understand his class. When you have played for 15 years, form is never a problem. He's probably saving it for the final."

On similar lines, head coach Dravid, who feels there is a big one waiting, praised Kohli's intent using the six he hit as an example and added that his intent sets a good learning for the whole group.

"You know with Virat, the thing is, when you play a slightly high risk brand of cricket there can be times when it doesn't come off," Dravid told Star Sports after India's 68-run win over England.

"Even today, I thought he hit a really good 6 to set the tempo but he was just unlucky that the ball seamed a little bit more. But I love the intent, I love the way he went about doing it. It sets a good example for the group as well if he's willing to do it."

Dravid further added that he loves Kohli's attitude and commitment after predicting there is something big waiting for the the final from the star batter.

"And you know, for some reason, I don't want to jinx it but I think there's a big one coming up. I'm just loving his attitude and that he's committing himself on the field - I think he deserves it," Dravid added.

India take on South Africa in the title clash on Saturday (June 29) at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, where conditions have been a little kind for batter and run-scoring. So, India will hope Kohli has good knock in the final.
