T20 World Cup 2024 Final: "If They Get The Job Done Today" - Michael Vaughan Predicts 'Trophy Winning Spree' For Team India

By MyKhel Staff

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan has predicted Team India to go on a 'trophy winning spree' if Rohit Sharma's side get the job done on Saturday (June 29) when they face South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final.

India will take on South Africa in the title showdown at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, where the Men in Blue will be aiming to end their 11-year ICC trophy wait.

Since winning the 2013 Champions Trophy under Mahendra Singh Dhoni's captaincy, Team India has come close to lifting the title in several ICC events, but have fallen in the final hurdle.

Even in last year's ODI World Cup, Rohit's men reached the final unbeaten, but failed where it mattered the most when they lost the title clash to Australia in front of a sold-out Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Now, nearly 8 months since losing an ICC tournament final, Team India have another chance at ending the drought for a title as the Rohit's undefeated Men in Blue look to end South Africa's unbeaten streak in the T20 World Cup 2024 title clash.

Although they may have missed at least 8 chances at winning a trophy in ICC events since the 2013 Champions trophy, former England skipper Vaughan, who has received flak from fans, has backed India to win many titles in the coming years if they manage to win today.

Vaughan took to social media to back Team India, which is loaded with quality in and out of the squad, to go on a trophy-winning run should Rohit & Co get the better of Aiden Markram's South Africa in the T20 World Cup final.

"I feel if India get the job done today they are going to go on a trophy winning spree .. they have so much quality in and out of this squad .. Its been 10 yrs since they won a trophy and this one could lead to quite a few over the next years," Vaughan wrote on X.

Despite possessing unbeaten runs, both South Africa and India have had a contrasting results in the tournament. India has dominated each side that they have faced in the tournament, including heavyweights like Australia, Pakistan, and England.

The Proteas, on the other hand, have won by a narrow margin on numerous occasions with Netherlands, Bangladesh and Nepal running them close in the group stage, while England, West Indies and USA also tested them in the Super 8s.

The semi-finals, however, were rather easy for both South Africa and India. While India defeated England by 68 runs in the defence of 171, South Africa beat Afghanistan by 9 wickets when chasing a paltry 57.
