The last four overs saw remarkable performances from India's superstars—Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah—who played pivotal roles in securing the win.

Hardik Pandya: For The Last Over

Hardik Pandya emerged as the hero of the final over, showcasing his prowess under pressure. As South Africa needed 12 runs off the last six balls, Pandya's calm demeanor and precise bowling turned the tide in India's favor.

Reflecting on his performance, Pandya said, "It means a lot. Very emotional, we’ve been working very hard and something was not clicking. But today we got what the whole nation wanted." Making his match-winning performance even more poignant.

"More special for me, how my last 6 months were, I haven’t spoken a word. I knew that if I kept working hard I could shine and do what I could do," he added, holding back tears of joy.

The match saw a turning point when Pandya dismissed Klaasen at a critical juncture, breaking South Africa's momentum. "We always believed, it was just about executing our plans and staying calm and letting the pressure come to them. Credit to Jassi (Bumrah) and the other bowlers for those last 5 overs," Pandya praised his teammates.

As the rain drizzled down, adding to the dramatic atmosphere, Pandya's composure under pressure was evident. His final delivery sealed the win for India, marking a full-circle moment for the all-rounder who has faced significant trials both on and off the field. "I’ve always enjoyed pressure. Very happy for him (Dravid), he’s been a wonderful man, really enjoyed working with him, to give him a farewell like this is wonderful," Pandya concluded.

Suryakumar Yadav: The Catch That Changed the Game

Suryakumar Yadav's spectacular catch to dismiss David Miller was a defining moment in the match. With Miller aiming to hit a low wide full toss over long-off, Yadav's agility and presence of mind turned what seemed like a sure six into a pivotal wicket.

"What a catch!! What a time to do that. Give SKY the fielding medal right now for this game," exclaimed commentators as Yadav juggled the ball just inches from the boundary rope, showing incredible balance and composure under immense pressure.

Yadav's catch was not just a display of athleticism but also of strategic importance. It halted South Africa's chase, swinging the momentum back in India's favor at a crucial juncture. His efforts in the field were a testament to the importance of every player in a team sport, especially in high-stakes matches like a World Cup final.

Jasprit Bumrah: The Death Over Specialist

Jasprit Bumrah's exceptional bowling in the final two overs was instrumental in restricting South Africa's run chase. His ability to deliver precise yorkers and maintain tight lines under pressure demonstrated why he was named the Player of the Series.

His dismissal of Marco Jansen with a perfect inswinger was a critical moment that revitalized the Indian team's hopes. Bumrah's spell of 4-0-18-2 was crucial in maintaining India's grip on the game.

After the match, Bumrah reflected on his approach, saying, "Usually I’m the one who tries to keep my emotions in check and get the job done but today I don’t have many words, I don’t usually cry after a game but the emotions are taking over. We were in trouble but we’re really over the moon to win from that stage."

Bumrah's ability to maintain focus and execute his plans under pressure was key to India's defense of their total. "I always think about one ball and one over at a time, don’t think too far ahead. Emotions can take over, it was taking over but you have to keep it in check," he explained, highlighting his mental resilience.

His strategy during the 16th over, when he realized the ball would reverse swing, showcased his tactical acumen. "I saw the ball was a bit scuffed up and it would reverse a bit, thought which would be the most difficult shot for the batter and was able to execute it," Bumrah shared.

The Turning Point

The turning point came when Hardik Pandya dismissed Heinrich Klaasen. At that moment, South Africa needed 30 runs off 30 balls. Klaasen, who had been in formidable form, fell to a well-executed delivery from Pandya. This wicket disrupted South Africa's momentum and paved the way for India's dramatic comeback.

A Team Effort and a Memorable Victory

The match was a collective effort, with notable contributions from other players as well. Virat Kohli anchored the innings with a crucial fifty, and key partnerships helped India post a competitive total of 176. The bowlers, led by Bumrah and Pandya, showcased their skill and determination in the face of a strong South African batting lineup.

As India celebrated their victory, it was a moment of redemption and joy for the entire team, especially for Pandya, Yadav, and Bumrah, whose performances in the final overs will be remembered as the defining moments of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Celebrations and Emotions

The victory sparked jubilant celebrations among the Indian players and fans. Pandya, holding the Indian tricolor, was visibly emotional as he spoke to Nasser Hussain. The camaraderie between Pandya and captain Rohit Sharma was evident as Sharma walked over to give Pandya a congratulatory kiss. The scene was a testament to the team's unity and hard work.

Rohit Sharma, holding his daughter in the rain, added a poignant touch to the celebrations. Coach Rahul Dravid, who never won a World Cup as a player, was all smiles as he spoke to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. For Dravid, this victory marked a fitting end to his tenure as coach, encapsulating the highs and lows of a storied career.
