India ended a long wait for World Cup success with a 7-run victory over South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final on Saturday (June 29) at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Virat Kohli's crucial 76 off 59 balls along with knocks from Axar Patel (47 off 31 balls) and Shivam Dube (27 off 16 balls) took India to a challenging total of 176/7, the highest score in the show-piece tournament final.

In response, South Africa rode on Heinrich Klaasen's 52 off 27 balls to get closer to their first-ever World Cup win, but some terrific death bowling led by Jasprit Bumrah followed Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya halted the Proteas chase at 169/8.
With that result, Rohit Sharma's side ended a 11-year wait for an ICC trophy as well as much longer waits for a World Cup. Before Saturday's triumph, India last won an ICC event in 2013, when Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men clinched the Champions Trophy.
While the 2013 win was a Champions Trophy, India's last World Cup win had come back in 2011, when MS Dhoni led the team to the ODI World Cup, ending a 23-year-wait for the 50-over show-piece tournament trophy.
Dhoni had also captained the team to success in T20 format as Team India won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007, which is like more than 17 years since the nation celebrated a triumph in the shortest format on the international stage.
As mentioned earlier, India has waited 11 years for an ICC title, 13 years for a World Cup and 17 year for a T20 World Cup title. But, how many days did the nation actually need to wait for this glory? Here is a look at the days gap since India's last triumphs:
After falling short at last year's ODI World Cup and World Test Championship, India finally ended their wait for a trophy in an ICC tournament after 4,024 days.
With the last World Cup triumph coming on April 2, 2011, the nation has had to wait for 4,837 days to celebrate another Cricket World Cup win, while they have also waited 16 years 9 months 5 days (52,70,40,000 seconds) - 6,123 days for T20 World Cup glory.
