T20 World Cup 2024: Irfan Pathan handpicks Four Players who can Lead India after Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2024. BCCI picked their 15-man squad for the ICC tournament and team India will be hoping to register their 2nd T20 title at the West Indies and USA.

There were prior speculations about Rohit Sharma's leadership in the tournament but the veteran has been chosen as the captain. Former India player Irfan Pathan also recently admitted Rohit Sharma is the right person to lead the Indian team.

The Mumbaikar took India to the Final of the World Cup 2023 and also won the Asia Cup prior to that. His acumen as a batter along with leadership ability will be a massive factor for the Indian team as they look to shine in the ICC tournament.

"As far as captaincy is concerned, he is the best leader you have. We always talk about the players, but leadership is a totally different thing," Pathan said on Star Sports.

But Rohit Sharma is heading towards the twilight years and India will have to find a future leader for the upcoming years. And the former India all-rounder has handpicked four names who can take over the reins from the current India skipper. He thinks the future of Indian captaincy is in secure hands as the upcoming players are ready.

Hardik Pandya has been picked as the vice-captain in the T20 World Cup. Along with Hardik, Pathan has picked Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah who can be the captains of the Indian team in future.

"In the future, they will be keeping an eye on Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah as far as captaincy is concerned. Now we have Hardik Pandya as the Vice Captain, Rishabh Pant is also there in your leadership role group if he gets going because he was there in the leadership role before he got injured. So there are three or four guys who are ready, but Rohit is the number one," Pathan added.

The four aforementioned players are in the India squad for the T20 World Cup. It will be a massive testament to Hardik Pandya, who has been enduring a tough time in the IPL. Rishabh Pant is also coming back to the India fold after being out of international action for about 18 months.
