T20 World Cup 2024: 'Learning Discipline From Rohit Sharma' - Shubman Gill Puts An End To All Rumours

By MyKhel Staff

Shubman Gill has put an end to all the rumours about him being sent back home from the United States due to disciplinary issues as Team India prepare for the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024.

With the Indian team set to travel to the Caribbean for the Super 8s, Gill and Avesh Khan, who were part of 4-man travelling reserves, were set to be released from the T20 World Cup squad, with the duo set to fly back to India.

Over the past few days, there have been rumours on social media that Gill is being sent back to India due to "disciplinary issues" with the batter also reportedly unfollowing skipper Rohit Sharma on social media, hinting at a possible rift.

However, the young batter dismissed all the gossip with his latest social media activity, posting a story on Instagram with a picture of the skipper Rohit and his daughter Samaira as well as himself with the caption: "Sammy and I learning the art of discipline from @rohitsharma."

This comes after India batting coach Vikram Rathour also quashed the rumours during a press conference, saying that release of Gill and Avesh from the T20 World Cup squad was pre-planned.

"This was a plan from the beginning. When we come to the US, four players will come together. After that two will be released and two will travel with us to West Indies. So, this plan was made from the beginning since the team was selected. This was planned so we are just following that," Rathour said during a press conference.

Gill had travelled with the squad as a backup to one of the top three in Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli and Rohit. Now, with Rohit and Kohli being picked as the first-choice openers and Jaiswal already available, Team India have opted to release the Punjab batter.

Avesh Khan also may be released as India is very likely to use three spinners with one of the pacers set to sit out from the playing 11 during the Caribbean leg of the T20 World Cup.

As cover, India still have Sanju Samson as well in the 15-member squad with Rinku Singh also available if required to fill in for any injury to a batter. Similary, there is Khaleel Ahmed should any of the quicks pick up an injury.
