Bridgetown (Barbados), Jun 10: Australia wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade has received an official reprimand from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for "showing dissent at an umpire's decision" during his side's recent win over England in the T20 World Cup.
Alongside the reprimand, Wade has been handed one demerit point, marking his first offence in a 24-month period. The incident took place during the 18th over of Australia's innings in the Group B match at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday (June 8).

Wade, facing a delivery from England's leg-spinner Adil Rashid, played the ball back to the bowler. Expecting the umpire to call it a 'dead ball,' Wade was visibly upset when the call was not made and subsequently argued with the umpires over the decision.
In its official statement on Monday, the ICC stated, "Australia player Matthew Wade has been handed an official reprimand for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during a Group B match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 against England at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday."
Wade was found in breach of Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to "showing dissent at an Umpire's decision during an International Match."
The 36-year-old cricketer admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the ICC elite panel of match referees, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
The charge against Wade was levelled by on-field umpires Nitin Menon and Joel Wilson, third umpire Asif Yaqoob, and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madangopal. According to ICC regulations, Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player's match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
This disciplinary action against Wade serves as a reminder of the ICC's commitment to upholding the spirit of the game and ensuring that players conduct themselves in a manner befitting the highest standards of sportsmanship. Wade's acceptance of the sanction without contesting it reflects an acknowledgement of his responsibility and a willingness to move forward from the incident.
As Australia continues its campaign in the T20 World Cup, the team will look to maintain its focus and discipline, aiming to build on its success while adhering to the codes and standards set by the governing body of cricket.
