T20 World Cup 2024: No Sanju Samson, Yash Dayal In! Zaheer Khan picks his India Squad

Former India pacer Zaheer Khan has picked his India squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

With the World Cup approaching, the experts across the country are expressing their thoughts in terms of the team. A balanced team is quite necessary for team India, and the IPL performances of the players are likely to play a big part as well.

Zaheer Khan recently picked his probable squad for T20 WC and he has named 16 players in it. Although ICC allows a team to name a 15-member squad, Zaheer has added an extra player just for the sake of an alternate pick.

According to the pacer, only one of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be picked for the tournament.

Zaheer has also gone with just a solitary wicketkeeper and Rishabh Pant is his choice. Sanju Samson hasn't found a place in Zaheer's team as he wants a keeper to be the travelling reserve.

"Rishabh Pant is my only wicket-keeper. I have given more importance to bringing four pace bowlers. You don't want to sacrifice a fast bowler for another wicketkeeper. At this point, we can consider Mahendra Singh Dhoni as well because of his strike rate! I think they'll focus on current players like Samson, KL Rahul, and maybe even Jitesh Sharma. If you're building a team for a month-long tournament, your travelling reserve can be your wicketkeeper," Zaheer said on JioCinema.

Zaheer has also made a huge pick in the bowlers list. The former India pacer has included RCB's Yash Dayal in the team and reckons the left-arm pacer will bring a new dimension to the Indian team. Also, he has opted to go with both Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav as frontline spinners.
