T20 World Cup 2024: Pakistan To Get Major Boost, Cricket Legend To Join Coaching Staff

By MyKhel Staff

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly in advanced talks with legendary West Indian batsman Sir Vivian Richards to bring him on board as a mentor for the national team ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The tournament, set to take place in the Caribbean and the United States, presents a unique opportunity for Pakistan to leverage Richards' extensive experience and deep understanding of the game, especially in West Indian conditions.

According to sources within the PCB, the board is keen on securing Richards' mentorship due to his impressive track record with the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). His guidance has been credited with significantly enhancing the performance and mindset of the players he has worked with.

"The board is highly impressed with how Richards has performed as a mentor with the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League. They are keen to have him mentor the Pakistan squad for the World T20," a senior official disclosed.

The PCB believes that having Richards as a mentor would be particularly beneficial during the West Indies leg of the tournament. His firsthand knowledge of the local pitches and conditions, combined with his ability to inspire and strategize, could provide the Pakistani players with a critical edge.

The official added, "The board is very eager to benefit from his expertise, particularly during the West Indies portion of the tournament."

However, one significant hurdle in finalizing this arrangement is Richards' existing media commitments, which could potentially clash with his availability during the World Cup. The PCB is actively seeking a solution to this challenge, hoping to accommodate his schedule in a way that allows him to contribute effectively to the team's preparation and performance.

"They are trying to find a solution because the Board is very keen on having Richards as the mentor, but he has not yet agreed to anything," the official noted.
