T20 World Cup 2024: Phil Salt hits KKR teammate Andre Russell for 100-metre Humongous Six - Watch

By MyKhel Staff

England opener Phil Salt was at his absolute devastating best as they started with a comprehensive win over West Indies in the Super 8 of T20 World Cup 2024.

After scrapping through from the group stages, this was a crucial victory for the defending T20 Champions of the World. The co-hosts West Indies came to the tournament with four victories but their Super 8 journey started with an underwhelming fashion.

Chasing 181, Phil Salt was the architect of a brilliant English run chase. The 27-year-old scored an unbeaten 87 runs off just 47 balls to take his team home with two and a half overs to spare.

The batting blitzkrieg saw Salt hitting 7 fours and 5 massive sixes, one of which came in the bowling of Andre Russell, Salt's KKR teammate. The duo spent a successful season with the Kolkata Knight Riders as they lifted the IPL title this year. Salt would have faced a lot of deliveries from Russell in the nets, and picked one slower ball and launched it into the night sky.

The ball went very high and very far, clearing the fence with ease as it travelled 100 metres. Salt's fantastic batting display has been a massive boost for the defending champions.

The Englishman currently has 147 runs in five matches in this T20 World Cup. He has batted with an average of 49 along with a Strike Rate of 181. With the victory, England went to the top of Super Eight Group 2. Two teams from each Super Eight group will advance to the semifinals.
