T20 World Cup 2024: India ended their 11-year wait for an ICC trophy after beating South Africa by seven runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 final at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday, June 29.
This is India's first T20 World Cup trophy in 17 years, and first World Cup trophy (T20I or ODI) in 13 years. India, who lost the final of ODI World Cup 2023, overcame their heartbreak to bring smiles on the faces of billions.

It all looked lost for India as South Africa were in need of just 30 runs off the last 30 balls with six wickets in hand. But India proved why cricket is a funny sport by bouncing back from there and beating South Africa by seven runs. However, that was not the only funny instance in India's T20 World Cup campaign which proved that cricket is a funny sport.
Had it been some other batter, he would have been dropped from the playing eleven. Ironically, Kohli went back to his original template after India were reduced to 34/3 and top-scored for India. He brought up his fifty off 48 balls and then finished at a score of 76 runs off 59 balls as India posted 176/7 - the highest-ever total in the T20 World Cup final.
As fate had it, Rahul Dravid managed to win the T20 World Cup 2024 title on his last day at office as India head coach. The dream he must have seen as a kid, got fulfilled at the age of 51.
Rohit Sharma will be 40-year-old in 2027 when the ODI World Cup will be held in South Africa. Chances of him featuring in the tournament is low, but God did give him some reprieve and gave him the opportunity to win his second T20 World Cup.
