Rashid Khan drew level with Shakib Al Hasan for most four-wicket plus hauls in T20 Internationals during Afghanistan's 84-run victory over New Zealand in the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, Guyana on Saturday (June 8).
Rashid, who is leading Afghanistan at the show-piece tournament, starred with the ball alongside Fazalhaq Farooqi as the duo combined for eight wickets that helped bundle out New Zealand for 75 after Rahmanullah Gurbaz's 80 had set a target of 160.

The leg-spinner carried on from his excellent spell in Afghanistan's opening game win against Uganda with yet another splendid display with the ball that saw him go level with Bangladesh's Shakib for most four plus wicket hauls in the T20 format.
Rashid dismissed his counterpart Kane Williamson, who was caught at slip by Gulbadin Naib, and castled Mark Chapman before trapping Michael Bracewell in front of the stumps. He later returned to dismiss Lockie Ferguson by taking a return catch to complete his 4-wicket haul.
While this was his eighth instance of a 4 plus wicket haul in T20Is, this was Rashid's second in the T20 World Cup. That list is jointly led by former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal as well as active players - Anrich Nortje of South Africa and Shakib of Bangladesh.
Rashid's compatriot Farooqi also entered the top 10 after his second successive four or more wickets bowling figures. Here is a look at the top 10 list for most 4-wicket hauls in the show-piece tournament:
With figures of 4 for 17, skipper Rashid also achieved a unique feat as he claimed the best bowling innings by a captain in T20 World Cup history, breaking the record jointly held by New Zealand's Daniel Vettori and Oman's Zeeshan Masood.
While Vettori took 4 for 20 in the T20 World Cup 2007 against India, Zeeshan claimed the same figures in the 2021 edition of the tournament against Papua New Guinea. Here is a look at the best bowling innings by a captain T20 World Cup:
