T20 World Cup 2024: 'Rohit is the Number One' - Irfan Pathan heaps praises on India Captain
In the competitive arena of cricket, leadership extends beyond mere skill and game strategy. The importance of a captain's role in cricket is massive, and for the upcoming T20 World Cup, India will bank on the entire team and the captain.
Among the luminaries of cricket leadership, Mahendra Singh Dhoni's name resounds as one of the greatest of all time. But in the current Indian team, the baton is held by Rohit Sharma and Irfan Pathan believes he is the right man to lead the team.

Following Dhoni's legacy, Virat Kohli emerged as a formidable leader in Test cricket. His tenure as captain saw India's Test team making significant strides, demonstrating his impact and leadership quality. However, in the domain of white ball cricket, Rohit Sharma is recognized as the preeminent leader. And Pathan says when it comes to leadership, Rohit Sharma is the Numero Uno in this Indian team.
"As far as captaincy is concerned, he is the best leader you have. We always talk about the players, but leadership is a totally different thing. We saw what happened in this IPL with quite a few captains; it's not easy," Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports Press Room show.
"When it comes to recent white ball cricket, you can't look beyond Rohit Sharma. He is your best leader, even with the bench strength considered. In the future, they will be keeping an eye on Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah as far as captaincy is concerned. Now we have Hardik Pandya as the Vice Captain, Rishabh Pant is also there in your leadership role group if he gets going because he was there in the leadership role before he got injured. So there are three or four guys who are ready, but Rohit is the number one," Pathan concluded.
India will be hoping to clinch their second T20 World Cup title this year as the tournament starts in West Indies and USA from June 1.
