Seven Records broken at T20 World Cup 2024 ft Bumrah and Pooran

  • Jasprit Bumrah: The Indian pace spearhead picked 15 wickets in eight matches at an average of 8.26 and an economy rate of 4.17. The stunning average broke the previous record held by Anrich Nortje. The South Africa pacer registered an average of 8.5 in 2022.
  • Nicholas Pooran: The West Indies wicketkeeper-batter hit the most sixes in a T20 World Cup. The southpaw's 17 sixes broke the record set by his legendary compatriot Chris Gayle (16).
  • Team India: Rohit Sharma's Men in Blue became the first team to win the T20 World Cup without losing any match. Also, India's 176/7 in the final at Kensington Oval was the highest by any team in the final of a Men's T20 World Cup. The previous record was held by Australia's 173/2 against New Zealand in 2021.
  • Rohit Sharma: The talismanic leader at the age of 37 years and 60 days, became the oldest player to captain a side to T20 World Cup glory. He is India's only third captain to win a World Cup.
  • India's Arshdeep Singh and Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi broke Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga's record for most wickets in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. Both the left-arm pacers picked 17 wickets each - one more than the Sri Lanka star.
  • England pacer Chris Jordan broke the record for best strike in a T20 World Cup edition. He broke South Africa legend Jacques Kallis' record. Kallis had a strike rate of 9.4 in 2012 T20 World Cup, while Jordan finished his T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a strike rate of 8.3.
  • T20 World Cup 2024 saw 1,478 boundaries being hit - surpassing 2021's tally of 1,349. Unsurprisingly, within that, 2024 also had the most sixes - 515, 110 than 2021's 405.
