T20 World Cup: With the T20 World Cup 2024 stepping closer every passing day, the talks around the selection of the players for the mega event is taking centre stage. The Indian team once again is in the focus, and experts have already started giving their opinion on the players who should be on the flight to the USA and the West Indies.
Zeroing down on India openers for the series has become a topic of debate. Captain Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli are certain of a place in top three, and there could be a toss up between Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Former England captain Eoin Morgan has given his opinion and reckoned that Shubman Gill should definitely be part of the squad and also feature in the playing eleven.
"Shubman Gill's a magnificent player and highly regarded, not just here, but around the world, for me has to be a contender to be on the plane, let alone get in that strongest XI and when it comes to contending for batting positions, in that six or seven batters that they might take given the all around us that they have, it does come up to probably him or Yashasvi Jaiswal. And not a case of him against Virat Kohli. For me, Virat Kohli is there already," Eoin Morgan said on Jio Cinema on Wednesday, April 17.
"So I mean, he's doing everything he can. He's managing his own game. He's recognising the responsibilities as captain and also the fact that they're two separate entities. I think that will help him learn more as a captain, moving forward and also aid his game as well. So for me, he's in contention with Yashasvi," Morgan said.
Zaheer Khan, who was of the same panel, was also asked about the expected shape of Indian top-order at the marquee ICC event which starts from June 2. He agreed to Morgan and said a choice will have to be made between Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. He backed the former to open with Rohit.
"Well, selectors are definitely gonna have some good headaches there, because when you're looking at the top order of of any team, there is a lot of traffic jam there. You know which direction selectors are going to go and we have to wait and see. But if you ask me, Shubman has to be there, and it will be between Yashasvi and Shubman for sure. Maybe they will stick to Virat being at at number three. They've already announced Rohit as captain. So you you know that there is only one spot up for grabs," Zaheer Khan said.
Yashasvi Jaiswal's form has taken a dip in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. The Rajasthan Royals opener has managed to score just 121 runs at an average of was asked about the positions of the players in the Indian top-order.. Shubman Gill, on the other hand, has scored 263 runs in seven matches at an average of 43.83, and a strike rate of 151.14. He has also impressed as the captain of Gujarat Titans.
