T20 World Cup 2024: South Africa batter Heinrich Klaasen gives Blunt opinion on Impact Player Rule

By MyKhel Staff

The Impact Player rule in T20 cricket has stirred the cricketing fraternity. Fans and Experts across the world have divided opinions on this newly introduced innovation which has been used in the IPL for last two seasons.

The IPL 2024 saw a significant effect of the Impact Player rule as a plethora of runs were scored across the season. The advantage of having an extra batter in the team saw a significant rise in batting scores throughout the tournament.

Although primarily bowlers voiced their opinion against the rule, a few batters have also spoken against it. The latest addition to the list of batters who have opposed the Impact Player rule is South Africa batter Heinrich Klaasen.

Amid the possibility of Impact Player being introduced in international cricket, Klaasen has raised concern about the rule and has cleared that impact sub shouldn't come to international cricket.

"I hope the impact sub doesn't come into international cricket. It frees up the batting side too much, you can have a batter at No.9, so there's no need to hang around. It takes away the creativity of smart batting," Klaasen said to Sports Boom.

The Impact Player rule does bring an added advantage to the batting team, especially during a chase as it gives the players enough freedom to strike freely from the very first ball.

It may come as an irony as Klaasen's SRH were the best-scoring team in the IPL 2024. They posted multiple 200 runs tally in the IPL and also registered the highest-ever score in IPL when they amassed 287 against Mumbai Indians.

Although the Impact Player rule has garnered criticism, the South Africa T20 franchise tournament SA20 may introduce the rule in the coming season.
