T20 World Cup 2024: Sri Lanka Reveals Full Squad; Angelo Mathews to Make 6th Appearance

Sri Lanka Cricket has unveiled a formidable lineup for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, featuring a blend of experienced stalwarts and promising newcomers.

Led by dynamic all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, with Charith Asalanka serving as his deputy, the squad is set to compete in the upcoming tournament hosted by West Indies and the USA.

Wanindu Hasaranga, appointed as the T20I captain in December of the previous year, has quickly become a centerpiece of Sri Lanka's cricketing strategy, known for his aggressive spin bowling and capable batting lower down the order.

His leadership will be complemented by the vice-captain, Charith Asalanka, a proficient middle-order batter whose performances have often steered the team through challenging situations.

The squad sees the return of Angelo Mathews, a seasoned campaigner whose experience will be invaluable in the high-pressure environment of a World Cup. Mathews, who first made his mark in the T20 format, has been absent from the T20I scene for nearly three years but returns in time to add depth and stability to the middle order.

The bowling attack is spearheaded by Dushmantha Chameera, whose pace and agility have proved lethal in past international fixtures. He is supported by Nuwan Thushara, young fast-bowling sensation Matheesha Pathirana, known for his raw pace, and left-arm seamer Dilshan Madushanka.

The spin department will be robust with the presence of Maheesh Theekshana and the young Dunith Wellalage, providing a balanced attack suited to different playing conditions.
