A new survey by Wise, a global technology company focused on financial management, underscores cricket's growing role in connecting Indians worldwide during the T20 World Cup 2024.
The study involved over 1,000 respondents in India, revealing that cricket-related activities rank high in maintaining familial and social ties across borders amidst the T20 World Cup.

Cricket activities, such as watching and discussing matches, help 39% of respondents stay in touch with overseas family and friends. Other top activities include sharing new recipes (42%), sending money for special occasions (40%), and sharing music (39%). These activities highlight the importance of shared experiences in maintaining connections.
The survey shows that 77% of respondents have family living abroad. Additionally, 61% observed at least three or four loved ones relocating internationally in the past five years. This trend underscores the growing diaspora and the need for meaningful ways to stay connected.
Financial transactions play a crucial role in maintaining family bonds. About 55% of respondents send money abroad monthly for various reasons, including gifts for special occasions (49%), education (17%), and daily life expenses (10%).
The upcoming T20 World Cup is anticipated to further strengthen international connections. About 44% of respondents would travel internationally to attend matches, and 72% believe the tournament offers bonding opportunities with loved ones in the US. These figures highlight cricket's unifying power.
Players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah are expected to have a major impact on the T20 World Cup. Virat Kohli is anticipated by 85% of respondents to significantly influence the tournament, followed by Rohit Sharma (67%) and Jasprit Bumrah (38%). Fans are optimistic about India's chances, with 54% believing India will win the T20 World Cup.
It is to be seen how Kohli and other Indian team gladiators rise up in this crucial ICC competition. India is slotted in Group A along with Ireland, USA, Canada and Pakistan.
