T20 World Cup 2024: 'They Can Beat Anybody' - Eoin Morgan Picks India as Favourites For Show-Piece Tournament

By MyKhel Staff

Former World Cup-winning England skipper Eoin Morgan has picked India as his favourites to win the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, starting from June 1 in West Indies and the USA.

Morgan spoke about Team India's squad depth and quality during a podcast on Sky Sports with former England cricketers Naseer Hussein and Michael Atherton as the build for the show-piece tournament gained more pace.

The former England captain Morgan believes Rohit Sharma-led side can beat any team in the tournament due to their squad strength and also recalled the headache the selectors would have had in picking the 15.

"For me, the strongest side even with injuries throughout the tournament is India without a doubt. They are favourites for me," Morgan told Sky Sports Podcast on Monday (May 27).

"The quality that they have on paper if they produce it I think they can beat anybody quite in the tournament. The strength and depth is absolutely incredible at the moment. We are talking about the players who missed out on the squad of 15 because of the quality they possess."

India, who are in Group A, will start their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign on June 5 against Ireland at the newly constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, where they will also take on arch-rivals Pakistan in a much awaited contest on June 9.

The Men in Blue, who aim to end their over ten years wait for an ICC title, will later play tournament co-hosts USA on June 12 before they face Canada on June 15 in their final group match.

India last won an ICC tournament back in 2013 when they won the ICC Champions Trophy under the leadership of MS Dhoni, who also guided the team to 2011 ODI World Cup and 2007 T20 World Cup crowns.

Since the 2013 Champions Trophy win, India has reached the 50-over World Cup final in 2023, semifinal in 2015 and 2019, the title clash of the ICC World Test Championship in 2021 and 2023, T20 WC final in 2014, semifinals in 2016 and 2022.

India has announced a strong squad in hope of ending the trophy drought as the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma may be playing in their final T20 World Cup. Here is a look at India's T20 squad:
