T20 World Cup 2024: As many as the three former champions face the threat of crashing out of the T20 World Cup 2024 in the first round itself. 20 teams divided in four groups are hustling hard to qualify for round two - the Super 8 stage of the ongoing ICC showpiece event in the USA and the West Indies.
T20 World Cup 2009 champions Pakistan registered their first win by beating Canada on Tuesday. They jumped to the fourth spot in Group A, but their fate is not in their hands. India and USA have won each of their first two matches and are the favourites to move to the Super 8 round.

Pakistan, who lost their first two games against USA and India respectively, first have to win their last group stage match against Ireland and then hope for the winner of India vs USA match on Wednesday to win their last match contest as well. While India will face Canada in their last league match on Saturday, USA will be up against Ireland on June 14.
Pakistan will also need to make sure that they register a thumping win over Ireland on June 16 to boost their Net Run Rate (NRR).
In Group B, defending champions England are currently the fourth-ranked team ahead of India vs USA Match 25 on Wednesday. They had to share a point each with Scotland from their rain-marred first match before losing to Australia. England now have one point from two matches.
Australia have won each of their first three matches and have already qualified for the Super 8 from Group B. Scotland, who face Australia in their last group match, are placed second with two five points in three matches. Namibia are third with two points in as many matches.
A win in both the matches against Oman and Namibia will take England to five points. England will not only want Australia to beat England but also win their matches with a big margin to go past Scotland's NRR (+2.164). England's NRR is a negative 1.800 for now.
In Group D, Sri Lanka's chances to qualify for the Super 8 of T20 World Cup 2024 are all but over. They have lost two of their first three matches and the third game against Nepal was abandoned due to rain. The T20 World Cup 2014 champions are sitting at the bottom of Group D with just one point from three games.
South Africa have already qualified from the group. Bangladesh and Netherlands have two points each from two matches, and are competing hard to become the second and the last team from the group to make it to the Super 8. Bangladesh will face Netherlands on June 13, and Nepal on June 17, while Netherlands will go against Sri Lanka in their final game on June 17.
