T20 World Cup 2024: Three Indian Players Leave for USA Late, to Link Up with Indian Team

By MyKhel Staff

Yuzvendra Chahal, Avesh Khan, and Yashasvi Jaiswal have embarked on their journey to join the Indian cricket team in the USA for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The trio departed from Mumbai, eager to reunite with the first batch of players who had already reached New York in preparation for the tournament starting June 1.

Chahal, the ace spinner from Rajasthan Royals (RR), had a stellar IPL 2024 season, clinching 18 wickets and showcasing his match-winning abilities. Avesh Khan, on the other hand, has been selected as a reserve player, ready to step up if the need arises.

The excitement was palpable as Avesh was spotted at the Mumbai airport, engaging in a video call with another reserve player, Rinku Singh, hinting at the camaraderie and team spirit that defines the Men in Blue.

Joining the bowling duo was the promising left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had an impressive IPL season with Rajasthan Royals. Jaiswal's performance as an opener was a key highlight, and his aggressive batting style and consistency have earned him a place in the squad.

His inclusion adds significant firepower to India's top order, making him a crucial asset for the team's World Cup campaign.

The initial group of Indian cricketers, including captain Rohit Sharma, fast-bowling maestro Jasprit Bumrah, and the top-ranked T20I batsman Suryakumar Yadav, departed for the US earlier.

This contingent also featured head coach Rahul Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour, and a mix of seasoned and young talents such as Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel. The team was seen in high spirits, gearing up for the intense competition ahead.

Meanwhile, notable players like Sanju Samson, who recently concluded their IPL campaigns with Rajasthan Royals, and Kolkata Knight Riders' Rinku Singh, are yet to join the squad. Additionally, cricket legend Virat Kohli, whose Royal Challengers Bangalore team faced a tough loss to RR in the eliminator, will be joining the team soon.

India's T20 World Cup journey kicks off on June 5 with a match against Ireland at the newly built Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. The tournament's highlight, a high-voltage clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan, is scheduled for June 9. Following this, India will compete against co-hosts USA on June 12 and Canada on June 15 to complete their Group A fixtures.

The Indian team is determined to break their ICC trophy drought, having last clinched an ICC title in the 2013 Champions Trophy. Despite reaching several finals and semifinals across various formats since then, an ICC trophy has eluded them.

The team is particularly focused on capturing their first T20 World Cup title since their historic win in the inaugural 2007 edition. The disappointment of the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal loss to England still lingers, and the players are motivated to turn the tide this year.

As the team gears up for the T20 World Cup 2024, the addition of Chahal, Avesh Khan, and Yashasvi Jaiswal brings a boost of talent and enthusiasm. The entire nation will be watching closely, hoping for a victorious campaign that ends the long wait for an ICC trophy.
