T20 World Cup 2024: What Will happen to Nassau Stadium in New York after World Cup?

The Nassau Cricket Stadium in New York has made its name in the history books. The Long Island stadium on the outskirts of the bustling city of New York is hosting T20 World Cup 2024 matches.

As a part of the globalization and expansion of cricket in USA, the ICC took the bold step to build a stadium in New York. Within five to six months, they erected the international stadium in the city, which has already hosted the flagship encounter of the World Cup between India and Pakistan.

The undulating nature of the Nassau County pitch has garnered criticism, but it has definitely provided thrilling matches. The India and Pakistan match was historical, while the likes of South Africa, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have also played at the stadium, accumulating seven group-stage matches.

What will happen to Nassau County Stadium after T20 World Cup 2024?

The Nassau County stadium had ten drop-in pitches which were flown in from Florida. Four of the pitches were installed at the main stadium while six others were incorporated at Cantiague Park, where team India and others are conducting the practices.

But as the T20 World Cup gets over, the Nassau County Stadium in Long Island will have its modulations. The Super Eight stages will shift the entire tournament to the West Indies, which means the group stage between India and USA is the last at the New York stadium.

As it serves its purpose, the stadium will undergo modifications. The modular parts of the stadium will be dismantled. The stands which were installed will be unfurled but the world class pitch will remain at the centre along with the other ground infrastructure will remain intact at the stadium. The Eisenhower Park, as it was known before, will be then opened for the local cricket clubs and fans as cricket looks to take the next step in the country.
