T20 World Cup 2024: When Pakistan Will Announce Squad For Show-Piece Tournament?

Pakistan is the only team among the 20 competing nations yet to announce their squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, which is set to be held in the USA and the Caribbean.

Many teams, including India and Australia, had revealed their playing groups ahead of ICC's cut-off date to submit the preliminary squad for the T20 World Cup on May 1, while the rest of the teams also announced their squads by May 14.

Pakistan also announced a 18-member squad, but that was for the Ireland and England series. Now, with the deadline for squads to be finalized approaching, all eyes will be on Pakistan, who are likely to announce their squad before May 25.

When Pakistan will announce T20 World Cup 2024 squad?

During their squad announcement for the Ireland and England series, the PCB selectors had stated that the T20 World Cup 2024 squad will be announced after the first T20I against England.

Pakistan, who won the Ireland series 2-1 after losing the opening match, will face England in the four-match series opener on Wednesday (May 22). So, the Pakistan T20 World Cup 2024 squad announcement date is likely to be Thursday (May 23).

Who is likely to make the cut in Pakistan's T20 World Cup squad?

Babar Azam, who was appointed captain in all three formats a few months ago, is set to lead the side with wicketkeeping trio of Mohammad Rizwan, Azam Khan and Usman Khan also to be named in the squad.

Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub will be the other batting options, while Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed will be the all-rounders in the squad. With the trio being able to bowl spin, Pakistan is likely to opt for only one specialist spinner in Abrar Ahmed.

The bowling unit is set to be pace heavy with Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf and Abbas Afridi likely to be the options. Hasan Ali is set to be included as a travelling reserve alongside Salman Ali Agha and Irfan Khan.
