Fielding coach T Dilip had another interesting guest to award the Best Fielder Medal following India's 68-run win over England in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final on Thursday (June 27) in Providence, Guyana.
Dilip had introduced an award - a medal - to honour the best fielder of the team in every match at last year's ODI World Cup and returned with the tradition again in T20 World Cup 2024.

The best fielder medal has been given to a player, who not only takes splendid catches, but for all the other aspects like executing a run out or saving runs or the glove-work from behind the stumps by the wicketkeeper.
During the ongoing tournament, the likes of Ravi Shastri, Sir Vivian Richards and Yuvraj Singh have been among the guests to crown the winner. And this time, it was none other than former wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik who did the honours.
Fielding coach Dilip first recognised the fielding effort of the whole team before calling out Axar Patel, Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya for covering the hotzones across the field.
Then it was down to the top efforts as Dilip recognized efforts from Kuldeep Yadav and Surykumar for executing run outs, while he also praised Rishabh Pant for his glove-work before introducing Karthik to give the medal.
Kathik joked that Dilip had downgraded the awarder by having him do the honours before recalling about the 2022 edition semi-final and praised Rohit Sharma for his captaincy.
"Two years ago, same game against the same opponent - I remember how we were in the dressing room, things didn't go our way - from there to where you guys have reached is great to watch. Rohit has led the team so well & Rahul Bhai, you had a great journey," Karthik said in a video posted by BCCI.
In the end, Karthik made a small speech about the best fielder award winner, reminding everyone that not many would have expected to him to play the sport, but he has made many happy with his return as he gave the medal to Pant.
