Team India registered a convincing 47-run victory over Afghanistan in the first Group 1 Super 8 match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Following the match, India celebrated the win in the dressing room with the best fielder's medal award ceremony.
Indian fielding coach T Dilip had introduced an award - a medal - to honour the best fielder of the team in every match at last year's ODI World Cup and that the tradition returned again in T20 World Cup 2024.

The best fielder medal is given to a player, who not only takes splendid catches, but for all the other aspects like executing a run or saving runs or the glove-work from behind the stumps by the wicketkeeper.
In the group stages of the T20 World Cup 2024, Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Siraj (twice) had bagged the honours with Ravi Shastri, Yuvraj Singh and a young kid named Subhek awarding the medals.
This time there was a unique celebration from the awardee with the awarder. In a video posted by BCCI, fielding coach Dilip as usual made a small speech on the match and then started to mention the top performers in the out-field at the Kensington Oval in Bridgtown, Barbados.
Dilip announced Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja as the contenders as he acknowledged the entire team's fielding efforts, especially due to the differing conditions in the Caribbean compared to the USA.
While Axar and Arshdeep claimed tremendous catches, Pant and Jadeja took three catches in the game. Jadeja's overall effort in the field helped him bag the award this time and he celebrated the win in a unique fashion.
Once Dilip finished naming the top performers, the fielding coach invited head coach Rahul Dravid to do the honours as he awarded Jadeja the medal, and the all-rounder lifted up the veteran after receiving the prestigious medal.
Rohit Sharma's India will now look to seal a semi-final spot when they face Bangladesh in their next Super 8 match on Saturday (June 22) at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua and Barbuda.
