West Indies is the land of colours as the people across the islands have a different vibe and extremely jovial nature. And one common thing among all the West Indies islands is their love for cricket.
The stands are always full when West Indies plays in one of their island nations. And as the T20 World Cup 2024 is taking place, the expectation was to witness a massive number of fans at the stadium.

But the visuals of the Providence Stadium in Guyana has been a shock to the cricket fans. As West Indies are playing Papua New Guinea in a group stage match, the stands at the stadium was mostly empty.
The barren situation of the stadium caught the attention of fans across the world who questioned the reason behind it. It doesn't match with the general norm in the West Indies, where people come in numbers and support their team.
The empty stadium in Guyana has multifaceted reasons despite it involving West Indies.
The match being a day game is one of the reasons. Although it's a Sunday in Guyana, the day match generally doesn't attract a lot of crowds. The match in Guyana started at around 10:30 am local time, which is not the most ideal time to play a World Cup match.
Ticket Price
The high ticket price has been tipped as another reason for the low turnout in Guyana. The minimum cost of a ticket for the WI vs PNG match is USD 22, which is about 4600 Guyana dollars and around 1836 in Indian currency.
The standard seating ticket costs USD 45, which is around 9500 Guyana dollars and around 3700 Indian Rupees. This high cost of tickets is also a key reason why the people of Guyana have refrained themselves from coming at the stadium.
