T20 World Cup 2024: Will Abhishek Sharma be selected for Team India with IPL 2024 heroics for SRH?
Uncapped India batter Abhishek Sharma is making his name as a hard hitter up in the order for Sunrisers Hyderabad in this IPL season.
So far in this IPL, SRH have won two of the four matches. Both of their victories came at their home, and they have failed to win any away game this season. It's clear that their current run has been quite bumpy, but Abhishek Sharma has managed to stand out as he has been excellent in all the games he played.

IPL 2024: Abhishek Sharma Stats in IPL
Abhishek Sharma is an Indian all-rounder hailing from Punjab. Currently, he plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The 24-year-old has led India U19 to lift the Asia Cup in 2016 and also was a member of the ICC U19 World Cup in 2018.
He started his IPL journey with Delhi Capitals. In 2019 Sharma joined SRH. He played 51 matches in the IPL so far and scored 1054 runs with a strike rate of 145.58.
In this season the Indian youngster has played four matches and scored 161 runs with an average of 40.25. His scores in the 4 matches are:
- vs KKR: 32 runs in 19 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes
- vs MI: 63 runs in 23 balls with 3 fours and 7 sixes
- vs GT: 29 runs in 20 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes
- vs CSK: 37 runs in 12 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes
After these stellar performances, Sharma has cemented their position as an opener or one-down in the SRH-playing XI.
IPL 2024: Can Abhishek Sharma get an India callup for T20 World Cup?
It is certain that Rohit Sharma will lead the squad and will open for India. For the other opener spot, there will be a competition between right-handed Subman Gill and left-handed Yashasvi Jaiswal. The form that Virat Kohli is in right now, it will be impossible to drop him from the squad.
Hence, at no. 3 it is expected to see him and he will probably be followed by Suryakumar Yadav. After that India has multiple options for wicket-keeper and all-rounder slots. As a finisher, Rinku Singh will probably be the first choice.
Hence, it is quite clear that it will be very difficult for Abhishek Sharma to get a breakthrough in the playing XI but he can be an excellent choice as a backup for the opening or No. 3. However it will all boil down to how well he performs in the upcoming matches.
The next fixture for him is in Mullanpur, at the home of the Punjab Kings. The pitch is expected to help the batters and it will be a good chance for him to continue his run-fest in this IPL.
