T20 World Cup 2024: Will the Tournament be Postponed after Terror Threat?
With the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 just around the corner, Cricket West Indies (CWI) addressed a potential security concern.
According to reports from Trinidad, there's a heightened alert about a possible terror threat to the event that the West Indies and the USA are co-hosting. The media in the Caribbean have reported receiving threats regarding the T20 World Cup.

The source of the threat is reportedly from North Pakistan, with Pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources launching campaigns that encourage violence against sporting events. These campaigns have included video messages from the IS-Khorasan (IS-K) group, advocating for attacks across various countries.
CWI CEO Jonny Graves confirmed that the organization is taking the threat seriously and is in close collaboration with host country authorities to ensure the safety of all involved in the tournament.
"We want to assure all stakeholders that safety and security of everyone at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup is our number one priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place," Graves stated.
The T20 World Cup 2024 will feature matches across nine venues in the West Indies and the USA, including locations in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, New York, Florida, and Dallas. Interestingly, no threats have been reported concerning the matches scheduled in the USA. The tournament will see 20 nations compete from June 1 to June 29, with a total of 55 T20Is being played.
T20 WC 2024: Will the Tournament Postpone after Terror Threats?
At the moment, the T20 World Cup 2024 is likely to happen as planned in the original schedule. Although the matter is taken seriously, ICC or any security body hasn't given any hint of cancellation or postponement.
The threat has reportedly come from Northern Pakistan with Pakistan being a part of the tournament. At the moment, there is no concrete intelligence indication which may require a postponement of the spectacle. The necessary steps will be taken to tighten the secutiry and we can hope for a safe tournament.
