Afghanistan made history by reaching their first-ever cricket World Cup semi-final. They defeated Bangladesh by eight runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in their virtual quarterfinal at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent.
The Rashid Khan-led side has been a revelation in the tournament, stunning heavyweights New Zealand in their opening match and then toppling Australia in the Super 8 stage to keep their semi-final hopes alive. The spirited win over Bangladesh secured their semi-final spot and ended Australia's campaign.

Former Indian cricketer S. Sreesanth praised Afghanistan's inspiring journey and their remarkable performance in the tournament. Speaking during the Star Sports Press Room, Sreesanth emphasised the global support for Afghanistan, acknowledging the BCCI's role in providing venues and encouragement.
He lauded Rashid Khan's leadership, saying, "The world of cricket loves Afghanistan. A huge thanks to BCCI also for getting them venues like a home team. And the kind of encouragement the Afghanistan team gets is unbelievable. And lots of respect to Rashid Khan. The way that he's been leading. More like a brotherhood."
Sreesanth also highlighted the emotional and inspirational impact of Afghanistan's success on their nation. He praised Jonathan Trott's coaching, noting his animated and passionate involvement in the game.
"We could watch Trott literally shouting and screaming. It was so good to see Trott in that role. Afghanistan was executing those plans really well. I think that's a success for them," the 2007 T20 WC winner added.
Similarly, South Africa clinched a semi-final berth in the T20 World Cup by defeating the West Indies by three wickets via the DLS method. This victory in the virtual quarterfinal propels South Africa to their first semi-final appearance since 2014 when they lost to India in a nail-biting encounter in Bangladesh.
Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg shared his insights on South Africa's potential to reach the finals and secure their maiden ICC title. Speaking during the Star Sports Press Room, Hogg expressed his admiration for the South African team, highlighting the impressive performances of Reeza Hendricks and Heinrich Klaasen.
Hogg stated, "They are just spawning from here. It's amazing. I regard Hendricks as well, I really like him as a player. And then you've got to build a wall, they can build a nice spin with especially Klaasen. I expect him to do really well against Afghanistan and get to the finals."
Hogg further praised the balance and aggression of the South African squad, noting the key roles played by spinners Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj. He also commended Aiden Markram's leadership, describing him as composed and correct.
Hogg concluded confidently, "For me, if I get past that semi-final right, South Africa is going to win the final this year. I just think I've got the team balanced and I've got the aggression as well. I've got that kindness."
