By MyKhel Staff

As the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 kicks off on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka, the cricketing world is abuzz with anticipation. This edition features 20 teams divided into four groups, with the top sides advancing to the Super 8 stage before the semifinals and final.

Co-hosted by two subcontinental powerhouses, the tournament promises spin-friendly pitches and high-scoring encounters, especially given the evolution of T20 cricket toward aggressive batting.

T20 World Cup 2026 Abhishek Sharma to Phil Salt Who will Score Most Runs

India, Australia, England are among the challengers, while dark horses like South Africa and Pakistan could surprise. Here are predictions for the top five run-scorers who can pile the runs.

T20 World Cup 2026: Five Players Who Could Score the Most Runs

Abhishek Sharma (India): The explosive Indian opener tops the ICC T20I batting rankings with a rating of 929. Since his debut, Sharma has amassed 1,115 runs in 33 internationals at a strike rate of 188.02, including two centuries and six fifties. His powerplay prowess, evidenced by 54 sixes in T20 cricket in 2025 alone, makes him ideal for subcontinental conditions. Ricky Ponting, a former Australian captain, has backed Abhishek Sharma as the leading run-scorer and potential Player of the Tournament.

Phil Salt (England): Salt's aggressive style suits T20's demands. The English opener has been consistent, with a career-high rating of 881 against West Indies in 2024. In recent T20Is, he's averaged over 40 at a strike rate above 150, thriving in high-pressure chases. England's squad, led by Harry Brook, relies on Salt's firepower alongside Jos Buttler. On turning tracks, his ability to counter-spin could propel him to massive totals.

Tilak Varma (India): Varma's middle-order stability is key for India. He's scored prolifically in domestics and internationals, blending finesse with power-hitting. With a strike rate near 160, Varma adapts well to spin-heavy pitches expected in India and Sri Lanka. The southpaw also boasts tremendous form and can be a serial run scorer in the T20 World Cup for India.

Pathum Nissanka (Sri Lanka): Pathum Nissanka has risen as a premier opener and Sri Lanka's all-time leading T20I run-scorer. His 2025 form shone in tri-series and bilaterals, blending aggression and consistency. At home venues like Pallekele and Colombo, Nissanka has a strong hold, which positions him to pile on runs and vie for the top batting spot. He is certain to play a big part for the Lions as they aim to showcase their mettle in the tournament.
