T20 World Cup 2026: Shivam Dube's 25-Ball Fifty Rescues India After Dutch Shake-Up

By MyKhel Staff

India's innings threatened to unravel before Shivam Dube unleashed a stunning counter-attack, smashing a 25-ball half-century to wrest momentum back from the Netherlands in their ICC Men's T20 World Cup clash in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (Febaruary 18).

Opting to bat first, India were jolted inside the powerplay by a spirited Dutch bowling display at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Abhishek Sharma fell for a third consecutive duck, bowled by off-spinner Aryan Dutt, who struck again to remove Ishan Kishan for 18.

Dutch Discipline Rocks India Early

The pressure intensified when Tilak Varma, looking to accelerate on 28, was dismissed courtesy of a stunning catch by Roelof van der Merwe. Captain Suryakumar Yadav attempted to steady the innings with a measured 34, but wickets at regular intervals kept India in check.

At 69 for 3 after nine overs, with the Dutch bowlers led by Dutt (2-19) maintaining control, India were staring at a below-par total.

Shivam Dube's Long-Lever Assault

Walking in at a critical juncture, Dube shifted gears instantly. The tall left-hander from Mumbai targeted the straight boundaries with calculated aggression, using his reach to dismantle both pace and spin.

He brought up his half-century in just 25 deliveries, hammering five towering sixes and two boundaries. His clean striking not only lifted the scoring rate but also swung the psychological balance back in India's favour.

Dube's knock of 50 not out off 25 balls marked his sixth T20I half-century and his first in the T20 World Cup. In the 20th over, he was eventually dismissed for 66 off 31 after hitting four-fours and six-sixes in his knock off which came at a strike rate of 213. With his belligerent knock, India eventually scored 193/6 in 20 overs but Dube reaffirmed his reputation as a middle-order enforcer capable of turning matches within a few overs.
