T20 World Cup: Babar Azam surpasses Rohit Sharma in Elite Record, may pass Virat Kohli soon

By MyKhel Staff

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has overtaken India's Rohit Sharma to become the second-highest run-scorer in T20 Internationals.

Babar achieved this milestone during Pakistan's 2nd T20I match against England at Edgbaston on Saturday (May 25). He scored 32 runs from 26 balls, hitting four boundaries, though Pakistan couldn't secure a win.

With that, Babar surpassed the India captain to emerge as the 2nd highest scorer in the shortest form of international cricket.

Rohit Sharma has played 151 matches and has scored 3974 runs at a strike rate of 139.97. In comparison, Babar has now 3987 runs in 118 matches and 111 innings, with a strike rate of 129.91. India's batting star Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer in T20Is with 4037 runs.

Babar can also start the T20 World Cup with most runs in the format if he scores 51 runs in the next two T20I matches against England.

Pakistan were the beaten finalists in the most recent edition of the T20 World Cup in 2022. As the upcoming tournament beckons, Babar will be hoping to lead his team towards a triumphant campaign.

India and Pakistan both have found themselves in Group A, with the flagship encounter set to take place on June 9 in New York. Apart from the two Asian giants, USA, Ireland and Canada are the other three teams. As the three top three run getters are in close proximity with each other, it is to be seen who emerge as the top scorer in the tournament.
