South Africa created history by reaching their first-ever T20 World Cup final following a 9-wicket impressive win over Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final 1 on Wednesday (June 26) night in Tarouba, Trinidad.
In fact, the Proteas ended their long-standing jinx of overcoming the semi-finals in both ODI and T20 World Cup after failing in their previous seven last four appearances in a show-piece tournament.

South Africa had fallen in the semi-final hurdle in the 2009 and 2014 T20 World Cups, and also exited an ODI World Cup in the last four round during the 1992, 1999, 2007, 2015 and 2023 editions.
Aiden Markram's side, however, broke that jinx with a thumping win over Afghanistan. South Africa, who became only the eighth side to qualify for the finals, will face the winner of India vs England in the title clash on Saturday (June 29).
While South Africa reached their first-ever T20 World Cup final, India, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia and West Indies are the other teams to have reached the title clash so far.
New Zealand has reached the final once, finishing runners up in 2021 following the defeat to Australia, who have qualified for the summit clash twice. Also reaching the T20 World Cup final two times are West Indies, who won the title in their two attempts.
Inaugural champions India has reached the T20 World Cup final two times as well and have a chance to reach the title showdown for the joint record third time along with Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England, who also have a chance to get into the final for the fourth time.
