The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had earlier announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
However, with the deadline for changes extending until May 25, the BCCI should consider making changes to the squad based on standout performances in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. Here are some of the names, who should find a place on the team:

Ruturaj Gaikwad, captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has been in stellar form this IPL season, scoring 583 runs in 14 matches with an impressive average of 53.00, making him the second-highest run-scorer. In contrast, Shubman Gill has not matched up to these numbers. Gaikwad's consistent performance and leadership qualities have sparked demands from CSK fans on social media for his inclusion in the World Cup squad as a backup opener.
Shivam Dube's performance for CSK since his Team India selection last month has been underwhelming, scoring just 46 runs in the last five games, including back-to-back ducks when CSK desperately needed him to fire in the middle-order.
Riyan Parag, on the other hand, has shone for Rajasthan Royals (RR), amassing 567 runs at an average of 56.70 in 15 matches, making him the third-highest run-scorer. Most recently, he played a crucial knock of 26-ball 36 to propel RR to a crucial win in the IPL 2024 Eliminator after RR lost crucial wickets at the top of the order while chasing. The innings show the maturity that Parag has developed in recent times.

Axar Patel has had a disappointing IPL season, failing to make significant contributions either with the bat or the ball. KKR spinner Varun Chakaravarthy, on the other hand, has excelled, taking 20 wickets in 14 matches with an economy rate of 8.18, the highest among spinners this season.
While Axar brings added value as a batter, India have enough batting firepower and all-rounders in Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, making scope to drop somebody whose performance has left a lot to be desired.

Mohammad Siraj's performance this IPL season has been under-par with 15 wickets in 14 games while RCB desperately struggled to have a strike bowler with the new ball. Harshal Patel, on the other hand, retained his knack for taking wickets and his moniker 'Purple Patel', leading the Highest wicket-taker list with 24 wickets in 14 matches at an economy rate of 9.73.
His ability to take crucial wickets could make him a valuable addition to the World Cup squad over Siraj while the likes of Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah can do the new-ball duty.
T Natarajan has been effective for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), securing 18 wickets in 12 matches with an economy rate of 9.12, ranking him fifth among the top bowlers. His consistent performance makes him a strong candidate to replace Khaleel Ahmed as a backup bowler.
As the BCCI deliberates on these potential changes, the final squad composition will be crucial in shaping India's prospects at the T20 World Cup.
