The Player of the Tournament in T20 World Cup is awarded for the best performance across a single edition with the award been given for either batting or bowling or all round numbers.
The leading run-scorer Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and top wicket-taker Fazalhaq Farooqi were already out of the tournament following Afghanistan's exit in the semi-final. While those two led the charts, there were others in the chasing pack, who could win the award in 2024.

In the T20 World Cup 2024, India and South Africa locked horns in the title clash at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados on Saturday (June 29) when several candidates for the player of the tournament were in action.
Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah (15 wickets), his pace bowling partner Arshdeep Singh (17 wickets) and skipper Rohit Sharma (257 runs) were all be candidates for the player of the tournament along with South Africa's Anrich Nortje (15 wickets) and Kagiso Rabada (13 wickets).
All the aforementioned player had a chance to clinch the award with impressive performances in the title clash. Bumrah, however, had the edge over most due to his economical displays along with the wickets.
Rohit, who could have claimed top spot in the run-scorers chart, was also a favourite. But Bumrah clinched the award with terrific performace in the final, where his final two overs took India away from jaws defeat to a World Cup win.
Earlier, the player of the tournament was awarded to the player from the title winning side only three times in 8 editions, while a player from either the runner up team or the losing semi-finalist has won the MVP 5 times.
Pakistan's Shahid Afridi won the first-ever player of the tournament award in the T20 World Cup, bagging the title in the inaugural edition in 2007 after an impressive showing with the ball.
Sri Lanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the second edition with a run-scoring spree in 2009, while England's Kevin Pietersen became the first player to win the player of the tournament award and the T20 World Cup in 2010.
Australia all-rounder Shane Watson was the first player to win the award despite his team not reaching the final in 2012, while India's Virat Kohli is the only player to win the award twice when on the runners up team in 2014 and as a losing semi-finalist in 2016.
