T20 World Cup: India captain Suryakumar Yadav recently spoke about the players who stood out to him for their strong mindset during the team's victorious T20 World Cup 2026 campaign on home soil. He highlighted that three senior members of the squad played a key role in backing his leadership and decisions throughout the tournament.
India lifted the title with a commanding 96-run win over New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8. After being put in to bat, the hosts piled up an imposing 255/5. In response, New Zealand faltered in their chase and were eventually bowled out for 159, falling well short of the target.

In a conversation with PTI, India skipper Suryakumar Yadav opened up about the importance of senior players during the team's successful campaign. While acknowledging the impressive contributions from the younger members of the squad, he emphasised that the experience of players like Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya played a crucial role in guiding the team and supporting his leadership.
"I don't want to take any credit away from youngsters. But the way Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya supported me and carried out everything throughout the tournament was commendable. They were always there for all the prayers."
India is set to host Afghanistan in a home series following the end of the Indian Premier League 2026 season. The upcoming fixtures could provide the Men in Blue with an opportunity to rotate the squad and give fringe players a chance as they assess their bench strength.
Jasprit Bumrah has been a vital cog in Team India's lineup. The right-hand pacer rose to the occasion whenever his captain, Suryakumar Yadav, needed breakthroughs. He finished the tournament as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets to his name.
The Mumbai Indians' bowling star was excellent in the death overs throughout the tournament, especially against England in the semifinals and against New Zealand in the final.
