T20 World Cup: Taliban thanks India after Afghanistan's Historical Semifinal Qualification

By MyKhel Staff

A rollercoaster night ended in utter joy as Afghanistan qualified for the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Tuesday (June 25).

The Afghans beat Bangladesh by 8 runs and thus stamped their authority at the global stage for the very first time. They will be up against South Africa in the semifinal.

Afghanistan

It was a joyous night, and an emotional one for those Afghanistan players. The players could be seen crying in joy, embracing each other in ecstasy, and some were stunned by their own achievements.

As Afghanistan achieved their biggest cricket milestone so far, Taliban has sent a message of gratitude to India.

India has played a huge part in the development of Afghan players over the years. The Afghanistan team played various of their bilateral series in India, while some of the biggest stars have thrived in IPL.

India made financial aid to build the Kandahar Cricket Stadium. The Afghans played many of their home matches in Noida and Dehradun. Also, the first Test match for Afghanistan was against India.

The stalwarts such as Mohammad Nabi, captain Rashid Khan, Naveen-ul-Haq and others have sharpened their skills in the IPL and the result was visible as they made history.

Amid the historic moment, Afghanistan's governing body Taliban congratulated India for its continuous support in their rise in cricket.

We are thankful for India's continuous help in capacity building of the Afghan Cricket Team. We really appreciate that," Takiban's Head of Political Office Suhail Shaheen told WION.

It is to be seen if the Afghans can further enhance their mark by qualifying for the Final. If they win over the Proteas, Afghanistan will face either India or England in the Final on Saturday.
