T20 World Cup: Why have South Africa not qualified for the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final despite winning the first two of their three Super 8 matches? South Africa will be facing hosts West Indies in their last Super 8 match on Monday, June 24, and still stand a chance of being knocked out of the tournament.
South Africa will need to beat South Africa to be certain of a semi-finals berth. In case they lose in their last Super 8 game, their fate will not be in their own hands.

After winning their first two games, South Africa are at the top of Super 8 Group 2 points table. They also have a positive Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.625. West Indies are second ahead of England after their thumping nine-wicket win against USA on Saturday.
West Indies and England have won and lost a match each, but the hosts are occupying the second spot because of a superior NRR. West Indies' NRR is +1.814, and England's is +0.412. USA have lost both their Super 8 games, and only a miracle can send them into the semi-finals now.
However, if they lose England and West Indies will have a chance to pip them on the basis of a superior NRR. England will be playing their last Super 8 match against USA on Sunday, and will have a great chance to go past South Africa's NRR.
West Indies already have a better NRR than South Africa, and can qualify for the semi-finals ahead of them if they beat them with a good margin on Monday.
West Indies will be knocked out if they lose against South Africa and England win against USA, and vice-versa. If both England and West Indies lose their respective matches, they will be tied with USA at two points and NRR will have a role to play again.
