T20 World Cup Winners: Full List of Champions, Runners-Up across All Editions

The ICC Men's T20 World Cup has grown into one of cricket's most exciting tournaments since its launch in 2007. This fast-paced format has delivered thrilling moments, dramatic finishes, and a showcase for explosive batting and clever bowling across editions.

The inaugural tournament in South Africa saw India claim the title. Under MS Dhoni's captaincy, they defeated Pakistan in a tense final by five runs, marking a historic start for the shortest format's global stage. In 2009, hosted in England, Pakistan lifted the trophy. They overcame Sri Lanka in the final by eight wickets, with Shahid Afridi's all-round brilliance proving decisive.

England hosted and won in 2010, beating Australia by seven wickets in the final. Kevin Pietersen's aggressive knock helped secure their first T20 World Cup triumph.

The 2012 edition in Sri Lanka went to the West Indies. They edged Sri Lanka by 36 runs in the final, powered by Marlon Samuels' match-winning century. Sri Lanka turned the tables in 2014, hosted in Bangladesh. They defeated India by six wickets in the final to claim their maiden title.

The West Indies became the first team to win twice when they triumphed in 2016 in India. Carlos Brathwaite's sensational four sixes in the final over against England sealed a four-wicket victory. Australia entered the winners' list in 2021, co-hosted by the UAE and Oman. They beat New Zealand by eight wickets in a dominant final display.

England added their second title in 2022, hosted in Australia. They chased down Pakistan's total with five wickets to spare in the final. The most recent chapter came in 2024, co-hosted by the USA and West Indies. India ended a 17-year wait, defeating South Africa by seven runs in a nail-biting final. Rohit Sharma's leadership and Jasprit Bumrah's bowling starred in an unbeaten campaign.

Three teams-India, England, and the West Indies-have won the trophy twice each, while Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Australia have one title apiece. The tournament continues to evolve, with the next edition set for India and Sri Lanka in 2026.
