"Tactically better" Shreyas Gopal looking forward to the new season

Shreyas Gopal, Karnataka and Mysuru Warriors all-rounder, hopes to grab silverware in KPL and Ranji Trophy

Bengaluru, August 17: The Mysore Warriors added Shreyas Gopal to their list after an almighty tussle with other teams during the Karnataka Premier League auction for Rs 3.4 lakh. The demand for him was quite vindicated since Shreyas is one of the top all-rounders in the state, having played 39 first-class matches scoring 1,524 runs with three hundreds and four fifties.

The leg-spinner has also grabbed 129 wickets and is ready for the challenges in the KPL and the upcoming domestic season. Shreyas said he has worked on the tactical side of the game during the off-season.

"There are a couple of things, minor tactical things I've improved on. I haven't changed my technique much because at this level I think tactics are more important. Other than that, I've just stuck to the basics and I am looking to perform better," said the 23-year-old.

Shreyas said he has set his eyes firmly on the KPL and the Ranji Trophy. "Winning the KPL and Ranji Trophy are the most important things right now. I want to perform to the best of my abilities and be as flexible as possible whenever the team needs me. I think that's the best I can give from my side," he said.

The Bengaluru lad is also at peace with the role of being an all-rounder and the pressures the tag bring along with it.
"I used to even bowl a bit in school. It (T20) gives me a chance to perform with both bat and ball - even if I didn't perform with one, I would have the other aspect to fall back on. Continuing to be a utility cricketer and having the option of both gives me a better chance of performing in any team," he said.

Shreyas said the Mysuru outfit's combination of youth and experience should stand them in good stead this season.
"We have a great balance of experience and youth. We are really looking forward to this tournament as a team and if we perform to our abilities there's no reason why we won't take the cup back home," he said.

"In our team there's nothing like a junior or a senior. We have a few experienced players in our team, who I have looked upto in my career. Similarly, it's all about making it as easy as possible for the newer members to perform at their best," he signed off.
