Tamil Nadu announce 30-member Preliminary Squad for Ranji Trophy; Sai Sudharsan, Washington Sundar Named

Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has announced a 30-member probables for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season on Tuesday (August 25).

With the new domestic season already underway with the Duleep Trophy, the Ranji Trophy is set to commence in October.

For the red-ball domestic tournament, Tamil Nadu has named a strong extended list of players, which includes international stars such as Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar.

They are placed in Elite Group D and begin their campaign against Rajasthan, and ahead of that, a long pool of players have been inducted into the preliminary squad.

Narayan Jagadeesan, who has been flirting with India call-ups, is also named, while a few other veterans such as R Sai Kishore, Baba Indrajith are included as well. Washington and Sai's inclusion is a big boost for the southern team, who have been underwhelming in recent seasons.

Although both India players' selections will depend on their international schedules, they are expected to feature in select matches if available. Both Sai and Washington are injured and currently recovering from their latest issues, which ruled them out of the Sri Lanka tour. Sudharsan suffered a right toe stress injury while Washington is recovering from a hamstring issue.

Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy 2026-27 Schedule

Tamil Nadu will begin their 2026-27 Ranji Trophy campaign in Elite Group D with a seven-match league schedule. They open against Rajasthan from October 11-14, followed by Uttarakhand (October 18-21), Railways (October 26-29) and Chandigarh (November 2-5). After the mid-season break, Tamil Nadu return in January, facing Himachal Pradesh (January 17-20), Mumbai (January 24-27) and Haryana (February 1-4). The top two teams from each Elite group advance to the quarter-finals, beginning February 9, with the semi-finals scheduled for February 18 and the final from February 27 to March 3.
