Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been discharged from hospital, four days after suffering a heart attack that sent shockwaves through the cricketing fraternity.
The 34-year-old, who underwent an angioplasty surgery on Monday, returned home on Friday but will remain under medical supervision for the coming weeks.

Tamim fell ill while leading Mohammedan Sporting Club in a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) match against Shinepukur Cricket Club at the BKSP ground. Shortly after the toss, he felt unwell and was immediately taken to the KPJ Specialised Hospital and Nursing Home in Savar. Following initial tests, he was airlifted to a hospital in Dhaka. However, upon his return to BKSP, his condition deteriorated, and he collapsed.
The situation turned critical as Mohammedan’s team physiotherapist had to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Tamim before the hospital administered shock therapy to revive him. Once he regained consciousness, a cardiologist performed an angioplasty, placing a ring in one of his arteries to restore proper blood flow.
Tamim’s sudden health scare sent ripples across Bangladesh’s cricketing circles. His family members, teammates, coaches, journalists, and fans rushed to be by his side, praying for his recovery. Following the surgery, doctors declared that the next 72 hours would be crucial. Two days later, he was shifted to another hospital in Dhaka for further observation.
On Friday, after four days of intensive care and monitoring, Tamim was finally allowed to return home. While he has left the hospital, medical specialists will continue to monitor his condition closely over the next few weeks.
Tamim retired from international cricket in January this year but remains active in domestic competitions. He recently led Fortune Barishal to their second Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) title and has been in top form, scoring two centuries for Mohammedan in this season’s DPL.
His health scare has raised concerns about the demands of professional cricket and player well-being, with many hoping for his swift and full recovery.
