For the first time since suffering a life-threatening heart attack, former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal made a public appearance at a cricket ground, visiting the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur to witness a key Dhaka Premier League (DPL) fixture between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani Limited.
Tamim, 36, returned to Dhaka on Friday night after consulting cardiologists in Singapore for a second opinion on his medical condition.

He arrived at the stadium around noon on Saturday while Abahani were midway through their innings. He was warmly welcomed at the venue and was also spotted interacting with players in the Mohammedan dressing room - the team he had been leading prior to the cardiac incident. The Bangladeshi veteran returned only as a spectator this time, not a player.
On March 24, during a DPL match against Shinepukur Cricket Club at the BKSP in Savar, Tamim suffered a sudden cardiac arrest on the field. He was rushed for immediate medical attention, where an angiogram revealed a complete blockage in one of his arteries and a partial blockage in another. This prompted an urgent stenting procedure to restore normal blood flow.
Following his treatment at KPJ Specialised Hospital in Savar and subsequent discharge from Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on March 28, Tamim spent Eid with his family, focusing on recovery. His recent visit to Singapore was part of a comprehensive health evaluation to assess his condition and future prognosis.
With Tamim sidelined from cricket, Mohammedan Sporting Club have been led by promising batter Towhid Hridoy. Tamim's presence at the ground, even if only as a spectator, was a heartening sign for fans and teammates alike, as the cricket fraternity continues to rally around one of Bangladesh's greatest-ever batsmen in his road to recovery.
