Tamim Iqbal reveals 'I wouldn't have been saved if...' after getting discharged from hospital

By MyKhel Staff

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has opened up about his recent health scare, expressing deep gratitude after being discharged from the hospital following a heart attack.

The 35-year-old opener, who retired from international cricket in January 2025 but continues to play domestic cricket, suffered a medical emergency during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match on Monday (March 22).

After spending four days in the hospital, Tamim was discharged on Friday and took to Facebook to share his emotions and appreciation for those who played a crucial role in saving his life.

"By all your prayers, I am at home now," he wrote in Bangla, as reported by ICC. He described the past few days as a time of deep reflection and overwhelming gratitude. "In these four days, I have discovered my surroundings as I found a new life. All that realisation has only love and gratitude. I have got your love throughout my career. But now I have felt it even more intensely. I am really overwhelmed."

Tamim Iqbal, leading Mohammedan Sporting Club against Shinepukur Cricket Club, began experiencing discomfort immediately after the toss. Initially taken to a local hospital for treatment, his condition worsened, and he collapsed, requiring an urgent angioplasty surgery.

Tamim extended heartfelt thanks to the medical professionals, hospitals, and support staff who ensured his recovery. Among them, he singled out Mohammedan Sporting Club's trainer, Yakub Chowdhury Dalim, for his life-saving intervention.

"How to thank our trainer Yakub Chowdhury Dalim bhai, I don't really know. I learned later, the specialist doctors said that I wouldn't have been saved if Dalim Bhai had not given CPR properly at that time," Tamim revealed, acknowledging the critical role his trainer played during the emergency.

As he embarks on the road to recovery, Tamim remains cautious about his health and emphasised the need for continued prayers and support. "The road to full recovery is still long. Keep me and my family in your prayers. May everyone's life be beautiful and peaceful. Love for everyone," he concluded.

Tamim Iqbal, widely regarded as one of Bangladesh's greatest batters, amassed 15,192 runs in 387 international matches, including 25 centuries. He is the second-highest run-scorer for Bangladesh across formats, only behind Mushfiqur Rahim. His sudden health scare has left the cricketing community shaken, but his recovery has been met with an outpouring of support from fans and fellow players alike.
