Team India has firmly established itself as a dominant force in T20I cricket without the shadow of a doubt. In the ongoing calendar year, the Men in Blue under the leadership of Rohit Sharma defeated South Africa in a thrilling final by 7 runs to clinch the coveted title.

Over the past three years, the two-time T20I World Cup winners scaled great heights in terms of batting by consistently leading the charts for the most centuries in a calendar year in T20Is.

T20I centuries by Indian batters

With Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli retiring from this format, the players of the new era have let their performances do the talking and are showing great signs that they are ready to take Indian cricket to the next level. Let's go through the teams that accumulated the most individual centuries in a calendar year (in the last three years).

1. Team India - 4 centuries in 31 T20Is

In 2022, India recorded the most centuries in T20Is. Suryakumar Yadav emerged as the standout performer as he hammered two centuries. He entertained the cricket fans worldwide with his 360-degree stroke-play by scoring his maiden century against England and then he followed it up with another hundred against New Zealand.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli, who was yet to add a triple digit score in T20Is, eventually managed to add a feather to his cap with a sublime century against Afghanistan in 2022 Asia Cup. Deepak Hooda is the other player who announced his arrival with a scintillating maiden century against Ireland.

2. Team India - 5 centuries in 32 T20Is

The Men in Blue once again stood head and shoulders above their rivals by recording as many as five centuries in 2023, bettering their previous record (4 centuries). Suryakumar Yadav who smashed two centuries in 2022, continued his rich vein of form in the subsequent year by hammering two more centuries against Sri Lanka and South Africa respectively.

Ruturaj Gaikwad displayed his class by scoring his maiden T20I hundred against Australia whereas Shubman Gill extended his white-ball supremacy by notching up a dazzling century against New Zealand and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is considered the next big thing in Indian cricket scored his maiden T20I century against Nepal in the quarter-final match of the 2023 Asian Games.

3. Team India - 7 centuries in 34 T20Is

Team India has yet again topped the charts in the ongoing calendar year by registering seven centuries in a calendar year and bettered their previous centuries' record (5 centuries). Former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma reminded everyone of his pedigree by smashing his fifth T20I century against Afghanistan in 2024.

Abhishek Sharma added his name to the illustrious list with his maiden T20I hundred against Zimbabwe whereas Sanju Samson etched his name into the record books by becoming the first Indian to hit two back-to-back T20I centuries. Notably, he went on to create yet another feather to his cap by becoming the first player to score three centuries in a calendar year in T20Is.

The Kerala-born registered his third century in the just-concluded fourth T20I against South Africa at Johannesburg. The 22-year-old Tilak Varma announced his arrival with his maiden century against South Africa in the third T20I in Centurion recently.

The youngster continued his terrific form into the fourth and final T20I by smashing his second century in Johannesburg. With this, he became the second Indian to score back-to-back T20I centuries.
