World Cup 2023: Temba Bavuma's picture 'sleeping' at Captains' Day event goes viral, South Africa captain responds

World Cup 2023: Temba Bavuma was caught 'sleeping' at the Captains' Day event ahead of the World Cup 2023 which starts from Thursday, October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

On Wednesday, the captains of the ten teams converged at the venue for the opening match and posed for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 official image. The captains also shared their thoughts and hopes for the next six weeks with host Ravi Shastri and England winning captain Eoin Morgan in an interactive panel session.

During the same captains' round conference, the South Africa can was caught 'napping'. The pictures of Temba Bavuma appearing to be sleeping while sleeping between Dasun Shanaka and Kane Williamson went viral on social media.

"Temba Bavuma has just fallen asleep in the World Cup captain's conference," England's Barmy Army wrote while posting the picture on X.

The opener soon took note of the picture and defended himself by saying, "I blame the camera angle, I wasn’t sleeping."

The interactive session has been criticised for mostly focussing on India captain Rohit Sharma and his Pakistan counterpart Babar Azam.

As per the social media manager of the Bangla Tigers, a foreign journalist even asked Rohit Sharma why there is no excitement in India for the World Cup 2023.

The BCCI is also being criticised for not hosting the opening ceremony ahead of the ICC marquee even which will conclude on November 19.

Talking about Bavuma, he mentioned about all the nine visiting teams having players who have a lot of experience of playing in India by playing in the IPL.

“I think that’s something that is relevant to all the teams. A lot of the teams have guys who played in India, have done well in India, so I wouldn’t really say it's an advantage for us. I think all we could do is for the guys who have that experience and knowledge; they can share it among the team or use it in terms of our strategies and plans. But I wouldn’t really say it's an advantage unique to us as a team," he said at the Captains' Day.

South Africa will kick off their campaign against Sri Lanka on Saturday, October 7.
