Tendulkar ruled out of Irani Trophy match

By Staff

New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) Star batsman Sachin Tendulkar will not take part in the Irani Trophy match against Delhi as he is yet to recover from his elbow injury ahead of the four-Test series against Australia that begins from October 9.

''Sachin will not play in the Irani Trophy because he has been advised to take rest for another week so that he can fully recover from his elbow injury,'' BCCI chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty said today.

He added that the National Cricket Academy's physio Paul Close has suggested Tendulkar to take some rest so as to recover from the stiff elbow.

The Indian batting maestro sustained the elbow injury while fielding during the India-Sri Lanka Test series last month, which also kept him out of the ODI series.

Tendulkar will work with Close in Mumbai from September 20 to get fit in time to join the national camp in Bangalore.

Earlier, Tendulkar declared himself fit to play in the Irani Trophy match between Ranji Trophy champions Delhi and the Rest of India side that begins from September 24 at Baroda.

However, Shetty ruled out any possibility of a replacement and said, ''We already have 14 players in the squad so where does this need of a replacement arises?'' UNI RAR PY RK1335
